Safe environment for gynecological treatments
The articles that have flooded the media recently, in which numerous women shared traumatic experiences they suffered during gynecological examinations, have prompted us to take action and add a dedicate page on our Info med website to offer women's recommendations about gynecologists who provide a safe medical environment for you.
In order to provide you with a professional and accurate response, we analyzed and studied dozens of articles and surveys on this subject and examined the causes of the considerable difficulties that women experience when visiting a gynecologist.
Most of the articles and surveys concurred about the factors for the difficulty and fear of undergoing gynecological examination or treatment, including physical factors (exposure, pain, discomfort), mental factors (feelings of vulnerability, loss of control, embarrassment) and the gender of the gynecologist (about two-thirds of women expressed concern relating to the gynecologist’s gender).
After analyzing the causes of difficulty, we defined six criteria for creating a safe environment for women during gynecological examination or treatment:
1. Respectful dialogue, devoid of irrelevant criticism or innuendo
2. Ensuring privacy in a private section so that the patient can prepare herself before and after the test
3. Allowing the patient to have a chaperone present
4. Providing a detailed and clear explanation before and during the examination or treatment
5. Providing a full explanation of the results of the test or treatment in a comfortable environment after the patient is fully dressed
6. Providing the patient with reasonable time to ask questions and providing respectful answers to the questions she asked.
